View Full Version : NEW BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain Tire Debut!

Ive been excited about this since I heard it was coming about a year ago.
The current BFG KO is a good tire, but its a little bit "polite" for our purposes. This new offering from BFG is an in your face replacement. The only competition I like for the BFG KO is the Goodyear Duratrac, but you cannot get them in any size larger than 34". BFG will make jeepers the new all-terrain in and assortment of larger sizes to give guys with big tires an option to not go with a mud tire.
Up in the north east, we had the worst winter in a decade last year. May have been record snow fall for the last century, (not kidding). My jeep had the BFG KM2 mud terrain tire installed and performed admirably for an MT tire. In the worst of wet and frozen conditions, this new all-terrain should really shine. I think it will also be a commercially rated snow tire.
I cannot wait to see them up close, and we will test them in the snow and ice, as well as in the rocks and mud. This may be the new standard for a tire that functions like an all terrain, being quiet and sticking to the ground in rain and snow, while still looking aggressive on our jeeps.

Here are some shots from the recent baja trip to release the KO2 that I missed due to an injury. Looks like the trip of a lifetime.

This has been a long time coming. Ive been riding on bald tires for a few months waiting for this tire to come.
Hurry up BFG! your public awaits!

This tire is supposed to be on the market this November. I'm seconds away from pulling the trigger on a set of duratracs but this new offering has got me second guessing myself. I imagine the sidewall on the new BFG would be an upgrade over that of the Duratrac. Hmmmmmmmm?

There is a great shot in the video where the side wall has to go past some jagged steel. Ill have to dig it up.

This is gonna be a real contender when I move from my 34.6" Duratracs to 37s. Now I wanna drive like crazy to burn some tread just as an excuse.

I want to beadlock a set of these on 37s or 38s and test them at very low PSI over the pointy rocks at Rausch Creek, PA!

It looks like they had a crazy time testing those tires. Looks like they drove through everything but lava.
This tire may be the new tire standard. I feel like the market wants more aggressive all terrains.
The mud terrains look cool, but 5k miles in, they will start to sing. And if thats not your cup of tea, it will make you hate your ride.
MT = loud, not great traction, look great
Up to now
AT = Quiet, great traction, look boring
New BFG KO2
Should be - Quiet, great traction, look great. Thats a good combo. The duratrac does this also, but the sidewall is suspect, and you have to stay at a 34'' tire.
I hope these are quiet!

They dropped one from 10,000 feet and then drove away on it. Crazy stuff. I cant wait to see how they hold up offroad. Im sure they will be champs.

I hope there side walls are that tough. I had BFG rugged terrains on my ram and my plastic culvert cut the inside sidewall, made me very leery of BFG products. I do like the sidewall look.

I've had really good experiences with my BFGs. The stock ones on my jeep held up well running at 10-12psi over sharp rocks. My KM2s hold up well at 10-12psi. If these are an improvement over that, or the same I would be pleased. I'm honestly reaady for improved wear characteristics vs. my KM2s. Fact is I have to drive 90 miles to the trail..that adds up to road wear.

Im waiting to see if they make a 38 that will fit on a 17 inch rim. That would be my first choice.
Squeeze a little more cruising speed out of these 4.56 gears.
Otherwise it will be a 37x12.5r17 that betty will end up wearing. I cant wait to test them in the ice this winter.

Nice find. Looks like our 37s are phase II..top of the food chain. Nothing larger yet.

Looks like if I want to run 37s I will have to bump up to 17" rims. SMH

Betty's got KO-2s!! I've seen it on Instagram. Ross, how do they drive. I love the look on the PM Forged wheels. I'm going to be doing lot's of burnouts with the new hemi to wear out my KOs so I have a reason to change tires. Are those 37s? Please say they drive nicely.

As Deng Xiaoping once said-- It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white just as long as it is good at catching mice. I think the most important thing about a tire are its actual capabilities and the aesthetics are well behind everything else technically speaking. If a tire looks cool but doesn't perform well what good is it?

I like the look and the longevity of the tread but I haven't heard much about them from folks I know or tried them myself. I'd like to get a set to replace my KM2s when the time comes.

Anyone within driving range is invited to drop in and take a spin in BB with the KO2. i'll guarantee if you drive on them, you'll buy them. best tire ive driven on. I love them more every day.
I stripped the doors and roof, and the truck is still quiet. wind noise only.

Anyone with the KO2's ever driven on Toyo Open Country MT's and can provide a comparison? Like Ross, I have my top and doors off and I'm dumb founded out how quiet the Open Country MT's are, so I'd be curious if the KO2's are even quieter!

Is this guy serious^^ ?
Thats the review? "they are on"? Do you love them? how much sexier is your rig now? are you rubbing up against it when no one is looking?
I know when i got my first set of 37 inch KM2s, I used to hump them in the living room(i was in an apartment and had no where to store them), my wife (girlfriend at the time) would die laughing. Then imitate me and when she did it it was really hysterical.
Something about new tires, and the KO2 is a great new tire. dont let me influence you, tell us your thoughts. Also how much did you pay?

Since I had only drove one mile previous to that pic I didn't think a review would be accurate. I will be reviewing these once I get my suspension on. I will say I will change the air pressure from 34 down to probably 28 or 30. Also they look way better in person than they do in pics.

Next up 2.5" MetalCloak GC.
Only a 2.5" kit with 37" tires? Dang dude... I think Metal Cloak's 2.5" kits are really like everyone else's 3" kit, but still, I'd think you'd want more clearance than that with 37" tires. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

I'm not a heavy rock crawler and I can always swap in the 3.5" coils. Plus I run really light so I will definitely get more than 2.5".

One quick thing I noticed is the road noise is definitely less with the KO2's vs the Duratracs. That is one thing I know would have increased with other MT's. It's a nice benefit. If I wasn't running a soft top I believe highway driving would be really quiet with a hardtop and some headliners.

BB is only a 2.5. he's got flat flares. He's good to go. No need to go higher.

Now that part I definitely love. The guys at Discount Tire think I'm watching them install the tires, but I'm really smelling the tires. I even went out during work last night to smell them.

Good point. I guess it's just a matter of preference then. I like to see a little more air between the tire and the fender, but sitting a little lower is not only a nice look but I'm sure it drives nice as well.

Three days of driving on the KO2's has given me a few thoughts. First they are definitely quieter than the Duratracs especially on the highway. Second, my current suspension setup is not good enough for these tires. Third, braking takes a little longer also. I will report back when I get my Jeep back next week after the 2.5" MC GC gets installed.

Still haven't been able to test these off road with most of Texas flooded with record rainfall. Around town they are the quietest tires I've ever owned. Handle excellent in all this heavy rain. Can't wait to test them soon.
