    Spring Cleaning....And POR-15'ing

Not sure that rhymes, but whatever.

At RK i got to see betty's guts ripped out and there was more rust under her than I'd expected.

I'm very careful about spray painting stuff when we cut or grind anything. But sometimes rust manages where there is spray paint.

So while I'm waiting for the flares to come back from powder coat i figured, I'd take the wheels off and paint the underside.

    Course of action -

I dont like to be under a truck on jacks or jack stands. Say whatever you want. I just dont. I was under betty once and a jack failed so I dont play around with it.

I stripped the drivers side front wheel and with the frame on jackstands, i lowered the axle to work on it. This way the truck remains on 3 wheels. Someone else may have put the truck on all jack stands and lowered the axles and done the whole thing at once, but if your alone, doing this, do it my way.

Here we are with the POR-15 on.

Ill say, after the metal prep spray, the rust seemed less apparent, so I guess I did an ok job protecting the truck this far.

I wont go 2 years between applications of POR-15 tho.

I dont like por-15, once you pour it out of the can you cant close the can again. It drys a crust that makes it impossible to close. And you dont use a lot at a time.

Buy small cans everyone. (and a lot of crappy brushes)

Definatly small cans. I threw a bunch out because i couldnt get the larger can to reseal once I got the por15 in the ring at the top.

they should make it with a screw top. Its not regular paint, It seems to expand when it drys.

You do get a lot of savings out of the larger container, seems there could be a solution.
