Holiday Rock Rails!

Attention JL Team!

The girlfriend gave me a box, and inside it said she would pay for the next jeep mod.

Im thinking rock rails, to upgrade from my current Rubi Rails.

BB's Rails are Aluminum, JG's is steel? Metalcloak?

Has anyone here actually dropped their rail on a rock? Like you are on a rock and you roll, and it hits under the door?

Im worried the aluminum is pretty, and light, but that one time you drop them....Bang.

Sound off on your rock rails, love them? trust them?

I run LoD's Signature Rock Sliders. The reasons are these:
1: Have integrated flat plate areas on top that give you sure footing to stand on so they can be used as an actual step.
2: Tie directly into the frame for a good solid anchor point.
3: The angled sides have slide plates that can be removed to save a tad bit of weight, if needed, but also gives visual appeal when attached.
4: Made from steel and built right in Indiana, USA.

Granted they probably aren't the lightest set on the block and I have yet to drop them on anything other than myself while laying under them during the install, I have every bit of confidence they will do their job when the time comes.

I've got these on my JK and love them. I beat on it a lot in the rocks out here in SoCal and they don't dent or anything so far. Really solid and smooth underneath so you don't hang up on rocks as you slide by.

with the steel, does your rig feel leany in the turns?

I don't notice any extra lean. A good suspension should negate that issue. They are heavy but not enough to make that big of a difference.

Mine are aluminum, I have dropped them on rocks like the situation you discribed earlier. They survived it.

I think if you were to break something in that case, or damage the rock rail, the maker would probably warranty it as its the soul purpose of the mod.

You will want something "boatsided" to protect your frame rails. If you drop the jeep on a rock, 1 of 2 things will happen, you will slide off outside, putting your door in danger, or slide off inside, where the rock ends up under your truck.

I like the nemesis rails, but Id say, if there is a place that you want steel, its in that spot.

It might just depend on what kind of rocks your running. Rounded boulders or at Moab might not be a big deal. But in some heavy rock where your using them as a pivot point for a 6000 pound jeep with 37inch tires and lockers then you might want something tougher than aluminum.

The nemesis rails have a space frame inside that makes them as tough as steel would be without the weight.

I like their design, and the price is close to that of similar steel rails, which says value to me since aluminum is more expensive material.
